Keesler Federal supports local Food Banks in response to SNAP crisis

Food Bank

Keesler Federal Credit Union announced today its donations to support community food banks in 2025 now total more than $100,000. These donations have become even more impactful now that families may lose access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit due to the government shutdown.

Support for food banks throughout the region follows Keesler Federal’s one-of-a-kind Paycheck Relief program, in which the credit union advances direct deposit paychecks to its members who are federal employees. Since the shutdown began, Keesler Federal has advanced its eligible members through two pay cycles totaling about $3 million. Paycheck Relief is not a loan but a benefit to provide members with financial stability during the government shutdown.

“Just as we stepped up to help our members affected by the government shutdown through our Paycheck Relief program, we are now taking action to help ensure families in our communities have the food they need,” said Board Chairman James Hollingsworth.

Keesler Federal employee volunteers will be on hand Friday morning at the Good Deeds Center in Gulfport for a food distribution in collaboration with Feeding the Gulf Coast, a community food bank serving 24 coastal counties in southern Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle. In addition, Keesler Federal supports the Mississippi Food Network based in Jackson, Second Harvest in New Orleans, and the Northshore Food Pantry in Covington, Louisiana.
